Experience the Ultimate High Country Tag Along Tour in New Zealand
Join us for the premier NZ High Country Adventure – a unique blend of rugged exploration and refined comfort. No other operator matches the quality of accommodation, meals and experiences we provide. This is the perfect tour for those who want real off-road thrills without giving up great food, warm showers, and a decent bed each night.
We’ve selected February and March for our tours, taking advantage of the South Island’s best weather conditions – ideal for exploring its breathtaking alpine landscapes.
A Different Kind of Adventure – With All the Comforts
This tour offers a very different experience from Tony’s remote Australian treks – for starters, there’s no camping! Instead, you’ll enjoy excellent food and comfortable accommodation each night.
The stunning mountain scenery will leave you in awe, and the landscapes change dramatically each day. This journey has been carefully designed to tell a story from beginning to end, with one consistent theme: the rugged, stark beauty of New Zealand’s unforgettable backcountry.
Unforgettable Off-Road Adventure
Our tour delivers spectacular off-road driving each day, with plenty of opportunities to drop into Low Range on remote tracks – all the fun without being too intimidating!
You’ll enjoy: 4 cooked breakfasts; 7 delicious picnic lunches "on the hill" – build your own wraps and rolls with fresh, quality fillings; 12 outstanding evening meals; and each night, relax in comfortable high country farm stays, resorts, and hotels. All you need to do is get yourself to Christchurch – we’ll take care of everything else!
Your Expert Guide – Meet Tony
You’ll be accompanied throughout the tour by your qualified guide, Tony – a born-and-bred Kiwi with over 10 years of tour guiding experience in remote Australia.
Tony brings a deep, personal connection to the South Island High Country, with an intimate understanding of its geography, geology, wildlife, and plant life. His passion for the region is infectious, and you’ll experience the landscape through the eyes of someone who has spent countless hours exploring its mountains and valleys.
He also holds a Tourism Degree and a Masters in Wildlife Management from Lincoln University, near Christchurch – so there’s plenty to learn along the way.
More Than Just a 4WD trip – Incredible Extras Included
While off-road driving is a big part of the adventure, this tour offers so much more. Included in the tour price are some unforgettable experiences: A 1-hour scenic flight over New Zealand’s highest mountains and largest glaciers (optional, weather dependent); a thrilling 2-hour jetboat ride through an awe-inspiring glacial river valley (optional); and to top it all off – a final night dinner at Queenstown’s Stratosfare Restaurant, high above the town via the Skyline Gondola, with stunning views over Lake Wakatipu and the surrounding peaks.
This is not just a 4WD trip – it’s a fully immersive South Island experience you’ll never forget.

"Cliff & I thoroughly enjoyed our first group trek. It was exciting to discover the 'outback' of NZ's South Island. Tony was passionate, knowledgable and excellent in showing us areas we would never discover on our own. Narrow tracks around escarpments, a few water crossings, amazing views, an insight to the life on sheep & cattle stations with very comfortable accommodation ,very good meals, an amzing flight over Mt Cook and glaciers plus a Dart River Jet Boat. Highly recommend this as a comfortable, adventurous and superb way to enjoy NZ's South Island off the beaten tourist track." - Gina Raccanello, Australia
"Tony ran a really good trip. Very organised, great accommodation, excellent meals and a heap of 4 wheel driving in some pretty remote areas. My wife and I and the rest of the group had the best time. Thanks Tony. - Allan Waldon, Australia
