If you've ever wanted to experience the Cape but aren't into camping, now is your chance! This fully accommodated tag-along tour takes you to the highlights of the Cape without having to set up camp and cook dinner every night.

Each night you will be eating real food and sleeping in a real bed. This tour is lead by a professional 4WD tour guide and instructor, so even if you aren't all that experienced, you will be helped out along the way.

Experience this bucket list location in your own (or a hired 4WD) vehicle from Port Douglas, to the tip of Cape York and back to Port Douglas. Travel within the security of a group tour environment, soaking up the best experiences of the Cape.

Cape York Tour FAQ's


🅒 All accommodation including private holiday park villas & cabins (all with ensuites) and hotel/motel rooms;

🅒 All  evening meals, plus some breakfasts (TBA) & lunches - Thursday Island burgers and beer + Portland Roads Prawns on the beach;

🅒 Full-time, professional tour guide/4WD instructor with a Cert IV qualification in 4WD training and current first aid cert;

🅒 Reliable 200 Series Landcruiser tour vehicle with all safety, recovery, communications and emergency equipment (Garmin inReach - tracker, emergency beacon and satellite texting);

🅒 Full day Thursday Island ferry and bus tour; 

🅒 Aboriginal Land Permits & National Park entry fees;

🅒 Tyre changing and mechanical assistance, spare 2-way radios;

🅒 Night spotlighting sessions for animals, bird & animal ID books and apps, photography sessions and tips, some fishing gear and tuition.


 🅒 4WD Vehicle, fuel, breakfasts and lunches (other than those stated), insurance, optional extras eg. fishing charters, eco boat tour, mine tour, scenic helicopter/plane flights etc. 


🅒 A high clearance 4X4 vehicle with low range (with some exceptions) and upgraded suspension and a fuel range of 600 km is required for this tour;

🅒 All terrain LT tyres (light truck construction) with over 60% tread remaining (ie. about 7mm min);

🅒 You don't need a winch or lockers for this trip. The guide vehicle is carrying all recovery gear. Some basic recovery gear is advised to be carried however - spade, snatch strap, shackles and Max Trax;

🅒 A mechanical checklist is to be completed and returned by a qualified mechanic at least 2 weeks prior to the start of the tour. A medical form is also to be completed and returned 2 weeks prior to departure.


🅒 Fuel and food is available at several locations along our route, however, you will need to have a fuel range of 600 km for the longest stretch with no fuel stops and contingencies.

Itinerary Highlights


Meet up North of Cairns for our first night's stay in Port Douglas. Get to know the team at our briefing and first dinner together at 'The Courthouse' in Port Douglas.

Bloomfield Track & Lion's Den 

What a way to start this epic tour! The scenic Bloomfield Track leads us to our first night's stay in Cooktown, stopping in at the Lion's Den for a refreshment.

Cooktown & Lakefield National Park 

Check out the historic and scenic location of Cooktown before heading through the remote Lakefield National Park, the second largest National Park in Queensland. Plenty of opportunity to try catching a barra and be on the lookout for crocs!

Weipa by the sea

For the best sunsets on the Cape. 2 nights in the beachfront villas at Weipa allow us to stock up and explore. Optional boat tours, fishing, mine and helicopter tours. Outstanding sunsets!

The Old Telegraph Track 

Drive this iconic section of the Tele Track. Palm Creek, Gunshot Creek (there's a way around the big drop) and Cockatoo Creek.

Pajinka - The Tip of Cape York 

This is what the crowd came to see! Get your iconic photo at the Northern-most point of mainland Australia. Spend a day on Thursday Island on the included ferry and scenic bus tour. 4 nights gives us plenty of time to take in the sights and history of the Bamaga and Seisia area.

Iron Range National Park & Portland Roads

This is an incredible location for rain forest wildlife. Our accommodation for 2 nights is right in the forest. Check out Chilli Beach and try fishing in the creek mouth.

The Final Whistle 

Complete this amazing journey back in Port Douglas. This is where we have our final dinner together, say goodbye to new friends and relive our experiences.

Tour guide Tony and his Landcruiser

Your guide, Tony

Tony is a full-time tour guide and Cert IV qualified trainer and assessor in four wheel driving. He has led remote tours all over Australia and in New Zealand including the South Island High Country, the Kimberleys, Flinders Ranges, Central Aust, Canning Stock Route, Victorian High Country, Arnhem Land and Cape York. Tony is a keen fisherman and photographer and loves chasing wildlife with the camera. He has a Degree in Tourism and a Masters Degree in Wildlife Management.
